Rolex-TP52-World Championship Cascais 2022

At the Rolex-TP52 World Championship in Cascais, Chimbovision GmbH & Co KG provided live coverage of the thrilling sailing race. As the drone pilot within the TV team, I was able to deliver unique perspectives and stunning imagery of the event through my aerial shots.

Nine boats competed for the title in the leading monohull class of international sailing in Cascais. The Quantum Racing team ultimately emerged as the winner with only one daily victory but impressive consistency and few errors, earning its fourth title in the ten-year history of the 52 Super Series and its second in Cascais.

The final races on the last day provided exciting sailing with 20 to 22 knots of wind, allowing the Quantum Racing team to make the final exclamation points of its championship week. The teams battled for victory over four days, and it was a very close series. The Platoon crew with owner and helmsman Harm Müller-Spreer had a good week but was too inconsistent and made too many errors to beat Quantum Racing. They had to settle for the runner-up spot.

The Phoenix team, led by skipper Toni Norris, had won a race during the championship but had to concede third place to the British Alegre with a one-point difference. Overall, the races were fiercely contested, and due to the high quality of the teams, even the favorites sometimes finished at the back of the field.
